About this speed test

The test runs against Measurement Lab's public servers, not against the VPN servers -- so the figure you get is your own line's capacity, measured the same way whether or not a tunnel is up. Run it once without the VPN and once with it: the difference is what the tunnel actually costs you.

  • Transport. Server list is ranked by distance from your connection. The nearest one is selected automatically; you can pick another from the dropdown.
  • Apps. Ping is the minimum round-trip time seen during the run, and jitter is how much that time varied. Both matter more than raw speed for calls and games.
  • Good to know. A result is only as good as the moment it was taken. Wi-Fi, time of day and how busy the far server is all move the number.
