About Squid proxies

Squid is a plain HTTP proxy. It is not a tunnel and adds no encryption of its own -- it simply forwards requests on your behalf, which is enough to reach a host your network will not route to directly, and is often used as the entry point of an injector configuration.

  • Transport. HTTP CONNECT on the port listed for each host.
  • Apps. Set as the proxy in an injector app, a browser, or the system proxy settings.
  • Good to know. Traffic through a bare Squid proxy is not encrypted. Pair it with an SSH or TLS-based account for anything that matters.
